SPARTAN SOUTH MIDLANDS FOOTBALL LEAGUE SEEK NEW SPONSOR
The Spartan South Midlands Football League is actively seeking a new main sponsor for the forthcoming season(s) after the ending of Molten Sports 6 year sponsorship. However, the League are pleased that they have been able to retain Molten footballs as the official ball of the league.
The League was formed in 1922 and was originally named the Bedfordshire County League, but changed its name in 1929 to the South Midlands League following the acceptance of clubs from a much wider area. The league further expanded in 1997 when the London Spartan League joined forces to make a much larger league spread over an even wider area.
The League is at Step 5 in the Football Association National League System, covering an area from north London in the south to Milton Keynes in the north and from Royston in the east to Amersham in the west and cover clubs from Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, London and Middlesex.
High standards of facilities and hospitality, which are required for membership, are mandatory and provide adequate comfort for spectators and officials.
The champion club, which this year is Royston Town, is eligible to be promoted to the Southern or Ryman Isthmian League. In recent years, 9 of our Premier Division champions plus 2 runners up have made the step up, where the majority are more than holding their own.
There are 58 clubs in membership in three divisions plus a reserve section comprising 30 teams. Clubs in the top two divisions all have floodlights and compete in the FA Cup and FA Vase.
Since the FA Vase was introduced in 1974, as the successor to the FA Amateur Cup, the league has had four clubs, Hoddesdon Town, Barton Rovers, Arlesey Town and Hillingdon Borough, who have reached the final, which is played at Wembley Stadium with Hoddesdon and Arlesey victorious.
There is a thriving Respect Campaign operating within the League which is in the final stages of achieving FA Charter League status and regular national and local media exposure is provided by weekly electronic Results Bulletin and Newsletters
The league also participates in the FA National League System Cup, the winners of which go on to participate in a European competition.
